Louvre Museum, Abu Dhabi<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

\u201cIl Louvre Abu Dhabi \u00e8 tra i progetti pi\u00f9 emblematici e meglio riusciti nel dialogo tra cultura locale e architettura internazionale. L\u2019iconica cupola, ispirata alla musciarabia locale, crea uno spazio esterno-interno metafisico ma non retorico. I volumi bianchi del museo, essenziali e proporzionati, si dispongono secondo una pianta che richiama i villaggi tradizionali, generando internamente un percorso museale efficace e misurato ed esternamente, all\u2019ombra della cupola, degli spazi minimali concatenati.\u201d<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Lo scritto \u00e8 stato necessariamente condensato per esigenze editoriali e credo che sia doveroso aggiungere qui alcune mie considerazioni sulla filosofia progettuale di Nouvel e del suo rapporto lungo oltre quarant\u2019anni con la cultura araba che non sono potute esser pubblicate.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Penso che Jean Nouvel incarni un approccio profondamente intellettuale all'architettura, plasmato dalla sua rigorosa formazione con Claude Parent all'\u00c9cole des Beaux-Arts di Parigi, dove ha imparato a mettere in discussione le certezze e a rifiutare rigidi schemi stilistici. Ogni progetto per Nouvel deve essere una risposta al luogo, radicato nel suo contesto culturale, climatico e storico piuttosto che in un linguaggio visivo prefabbricato: una posizione che lo ha portato a rifiutare qualsiasi cifra stilistica fissa, in contrapposizione ad altri famosi architetti. Questo suo modus operandi da una parte lo ha portato a costruire architetture incredibili e sempre nuove, dall'altra rende difficile una sua catalogazione stilistica.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Questa filosofia \u00e8 evidente gi\u00e0 nei suoi primi lavori, come l'Institut du Monde Arabe (Parigi, 1987) e il padiglione in vetro della Fondation Cartier per l'arte contemporanea (Parigi, 1994), dove trasparenza e riflessi creano un dialogo continuo tra interno, giardino e citt\u00e0, dissolvendo il confine tra arte e vita urbana. In particolare l'Institut du Monde Arabe, progettato assieme ad Architecture Studio, \u00e8 una tappa fondamentale per lo sviluppo della filosofia progettuale di Nouvel e del suo rapporto con la cultura araba e islamica: il sistema di facciata, con diaframmi metallici meccanizzati, richiama espressamente la musciarabia araba e la trasforma in elemento di design tecnologico.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Al Louvre Abu Dhabi questo pensiero raggiunge il suo punto pi\u00f9 maturo, ma non nel senso in cui viene solitamente letto. Non \u00e8 la citazione della musciarabia, di per s\u00e9, a rendere quest'opera importante: \u00e8 la lucidit\u00e0 con cui Nouvel accetta un compromesso che altri architetti avrebbero rifiutato per orgoglio stilistico. La parte museale, nella sua matrice funzionale, \u00e8 deliberatamente occidentale: per me \u00e8 giusto che lo sia. Il Louvre Abu Dhabi \u00e8 la prima sede all'estero di una delle istituzioni museali pi\u00f9 importanti d'Occidente: ci si aspetta che funzioni bene e che sia l'espressione di quella visione museografica. Se l'obiettivo fosse stato diverso, l'incarico sarebbe andato a un progettista arabo e a un'istituzione mediorientale. Il compito di Nouvel non era arabizzare l\u2019idea e la funzione del museo, ma costruire il luogo in cui due grammatiche culturali potessero stare nello stesso spazio senza che una cancellasse l'altra.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Ed \u00e8 qui che il progetto si gioca la sua scommessa pi\u00f9 rischiosa: la planimetria organizzata come una citt\u00e0, i volumi bianchi come un tessuto urbano tradizionale, e sopra tutto questo una cupola che non copre un edificio ma una citt\u00e0 intera, come fosse essa stessa una gigantesca musciarabia. La cupola \u00e8 stata criticata perch\u00e9 non sarebbe un elemento strutturale, ma credo che non sia una critica giusta: perch\u00e9 dovrebbe esserlo? La musciarabia, nella tradizione costruttiva araba, non \u00e8 mai stata un elemento strutturale: \u00e8 un filtro, un diaframma tra pubblico e privato, tra luce e ombra. Chiedere a Nouvel di renderla strutturale significherebbe fraintendere cosa sia, non correggerne un uso improprio.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

\u00c8 per questo che considero il Louvre Abu Dhabi, al di l\u00e0 dei suoi meriti tecnici, stilistici e costruttivi, il miglior tentativo costruito, con rigore, di far dialogare due culture dal punto di vista stilistico, funzionale e concettuale, offrendo cos\u00ec una possibile risposta a uno dei problemi pi\u00f9 urgenti dell'architettura contemporanea. Dopo la stagione gloriosa del Moderno, in cui gli architetti pretendevano di plasmare la vita e la societ\u00e0 dei cittadini con opere cariche anche di significato politico, cosa resta oggi dell'architettura se non sterili diatribe stilistiche?<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Credo che dare all'architettura una ragione d'essere superiore al problema dello stile, ovvero il compito di creare occasioni concrete di dialogo e cooperazione tra culture diverse, sia una possibile chiave per restituirle valore e dare un senso all'architettura del XXI secolo.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
